When we hammered load on this unit the noise level was even with the XFX 750W model. We found, in other words, nothing to complain about - neither power supply fan sang more than the other when we fully loaded the system. Since the 750W and 850W Black Edition are basically the same I must also recommend this unit, although it is a bit more expensive than the 750W. It is very well built and has solid lines… for the budget and power needs, (or potential future power needs), it is not wrong to look at the XFX Black Edition 850W.

XFX proved it is best by manufacturing a new PSU – the XPS-850-BES is a good competitor to models by other makers. The PSU will attract customers with its unique appearance, rich set of connectors and good features and here we should highlight very stable performance at various workloads.

During our tests, we really appreciated the stability of all rails, with heavy loads too… the temperatures were really good and this means that the fans were pretty quiet, so no noise. This is one of the first PSUs from XFX, so we are happy to congratulate them. XFX introduced a really good PSU and we hope that in the near future we will see a few new models like 1000+ W to compete with other big brands. The 80 Plus Silver certification confirms the good quality of this one, we are happy to suggest it if you are looking for a high quality and a good-look power supply to put it in a high end desktop system/gaming/modding platform.

XFX XPS-850W-BES Pluses: Perfect design. Completely stable in out voltage index and no peaks regardless of the workload; peaks and drops level is insignificant even with high load. Silent fan. High performance. A pocket bag to store removable cables. Cables with varied distance between the connectors for optimal placement in the case. Minuses: None found.

A powerful and high-quality PSU with an unusual design. You might think that its price is too high, but the cheaper PSUs of the same power have only simple “80 Plus” or “80 Plus Bronze” certification – so they have lower efficiency. Real competitors of 850W Black Edition with 850W of power and “80+ Silver” logo from other manufacturers are usually much more expensive than the XFX PSU.

For a high end system such as ours, a quality PSU is a must, and we're currently unaware of a better one than XFX 850W Black Edition - XPS-850W-BES, especially after taking price into consideration... The most important point is the actual muscle this PSU can muster, and 850W with a 80 Plus Silver Certificate speaks for itself... After taking price into consideration, this turns into a no brainer as we'd dare you to find a better PSU for 150 euro.

XFX 850 W Black Edition is identical to Seasonic M12D 850 W, but with a more aggressive looks and costing a little bit less. XFX 850 W Black Edition achieved very high efficiency, achieving up to 87.8% during our tests. Voltage stability was another highlight, with all positive voltages inside 3% of their nominal values. And finally we have noise and ripple, which were low all the time: noise level at +12 V was below 25% of the maximum allowed.

The XFX Black Edition 850W performed admirably. The DC voltage load regulation was excellent, DC quality well within specification, and excellent efficiency of up to 89%. If you are in the market for a power supply to run any high end system with graphics cards in an SLI or Crossfire configuration, then I have no hesitation in highly recommending the XFX Black Edition 850W power supply.

XFX have made their entrance on the PSU market with a rarely seen exhibition of manner and style. They have created a PSU with a previously unseen stability, and looking back at the more than 50 PSUs that has passed through yours truly’s test bench it is close to impossible to find any other PSU that even matches. It simply didn’t matter WHAT we threw at this PSU it just kept pumping out the Amps at the same high, super stable level.
But not only is the XFX 850W Black Edition PSU incredible stable in its high level performance but it also delivers said performance at a noise level that resembles a library after closing hours. There’s simply no noise from the fan at all. Naturally this can be credited to the high percentage of efficiency but it is also due to a very well-constructed interior design.

If you thought the packaging was unique, get a load of the power supply itself. We all know that some people may hate it while others (myself included) will give XFX a high five for creativity but one thing is certain: there is no other power supply on the market that looks quite like this. To be honest with you, pictures just don’t do its design elements or its amazing finish any justice. The green 135mm ADDA fan is definitely an eye-catcher as well. If initial impressions are anything to go by, this power supply may be one of the best available when it ends up going on sale sometime this month. Not only do it look absolutely stunning without being overly gaudy but it packs Seasonic underpinnings from a power supply that retails for $250 and more. Starting into such a competitive market is very much a sink or swim type of affair but judging from initial impressions, XFX seems to have everything it takes to be successful.

XFX certainly have made a very impressive entry into the PSU sector. The Black Edition 850W unit not only provides outstanding overall performance but at the same time it also is very well designed and aesthetically impressive - this will appeal to modders or enthusiasts wanting to make an impression via a chassis window. The Black Edition 850W shows remarkable electrical efficiency which can reach up to 90% under typical load and never drops below 85% under any circumstances between 20% and 100% load. Summary: XFX have released one of the most impressive products we have ever tested in our labs. Due to the class leading electrical performance, creative design and eye catching styling it is deserving of our most coveted award.

The XFX 850W Black Edition came looking to make a splash, and ended up doing a cannonball big enough to just about drown the competition. Voltage regulation is nothing short of fantastic, efficiency is excellent, and ripple and noise is just about nonexistent. There are only a very few units able to compete with the performance of this machine, and I'm giving this unit the same performance score I gave them - 10.
